We came into this race with so much against us…sitting in the #2 position in points, the only way we had hopes to pull off a championship was to obtain all of these objectives:
1) Qualify #1
2) Reset the LS Record (that we held)
3) We had to win the entire event, AND Putnam had to go out in the 2nd Round

Well, we obtained 2 out of the 3 objectives…the weather wasn’t ideal so we weren’t exactly sure what the car would do as far as setting records with the brand new Coan Engineering torque converter (our only change to the car since the US-131 Win)…the first pass in Qualifying, we reset our record and from then until the finals, we RESET the RECORD EVERY PASS and kept running away from the field. The new converter combination with the P1X was nearly perfect and we chipped away at the tune and pushed it faster and faster. Not only did we Qualify #1 but we smashed the previous record (that we held with the 2.3L TVS setup) bringing Procharger Superchargers their first RECORD in the class. We were happy to bring them their first official #1 Qualifier and First Win as well at US-131!

Of course we made it seem easy, but in the pits between every round we were thrashing on the car, changing belts, tensioners, suspension, etc. fighting with the car. Tuning the car with the new torque converter was a completely new challenge as so many changes were required.

That brought us into eliminations rounds which were moved up quickly and a day sooner than scheduled due to incoming rain/storms. In Round 1, we reset the record to its official 8.128 at 167.82mph. In efforts to save the motor, we took the tree for Round 2 and got ready for the Finals. Unfortunately, since Putnam defeated Wendell in Round 2, he clinched his series points championship with that alone. The track was on kill as we rolled into the beams for the finals…since the car was responding so well, we left the tune alone to face off against Putnam, but as soon as I let go of the transbrake, the car went UP and UP and UP into a massive power wheelie that I had held onto for as long as I could, but when it clicked through 2nd gear and the car was still riding upward, I had no choice but to pedal it, bring it back down and chase…it was a super close race, with both Bill and I running matching 8.332 runs, but unfortunately, due to the power wheelie, I wasn’t able to make up enough ground just barely…none the less it was a great race and we left as the Limited Street Runner-Up in the All Ford World Finals, as well as clinching our #2 Points Championship Finish in the NMRA.

We had a great season, full of highs and lows, struggles and victories…we never gave up, even when they threw out huge mid-season rule changes. The car definitely lived up to her name this year yet again, “Relentless”. We look forward to the next 2022 season and want to send a huge THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and supporters!
